What is it?
Botulinum A toxin (which includes Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau) is used with the intent to temporarily paralyze muscles in order to decrease dynamic wrinkles or lines (those caused by facial movement).
The treatment works on average for 3 months. With treatment over time, wrinkles or lines present at rest are expected to fade or resolve and future wrinkles or lines at rest are prevented.
Often neurotoxins are referred to as “Botox” due to the readily recognized brand.
First neurotoxin FDA approved for treatment of facial lines.
Does not contain the preservatives that other neurotoxins contain, hence making it a “cleaner” injection.
Good for patients who have built up a tolerance or aren’t getting as good of an effect as before with other neurotoxins.
Formulated differently in dilution when compared to Botox.
About 2.5 units of Dysport is equivalent to 1 unit of Botox or Xeomin. This is why more units will be used but the price per unit is lower with Dysport.
$4.40 per unit
